How to Share One Printer with multiple Computers on an XP Home Network

If you have two personal computers (both running Windows XP) tied together, either by a wire
or wireless connection in a Home Network configuration, you can share a single printer by
following the simple steps below.

On the computer actually connected to the printer:
1. Left-click on the Start Menu.
2. Go to the Control Panel.
3. Choose Printers and Faxes.
4. Right-click the printer you want to share.
5. Left-click Sharing.
6. In the Sharing window, click the Share This Printer button and then type a name for the
printer, anything you want.
7. Click OK.

On your second or third computer (the ones that are not attached to the target printer):
1. Left-click on the Start Menu.
2. Left-click on Control Panel.
3. Choose Printers and Faxes.
4. Select Add a Printer. The Add Printer Wizard will open.
5. Click Next.
6. Click the “A network printer…” radio button and click Next.
7. Click the “Connect to this printer” radio button.
8. Click Next.
9. A list of printers will appear.
10. Choose the printer to which you want to connect, and click OK.
11. Select “Do you want to use this printer as the default printer?” Click Yes.
12. Click Next and then Finish.
13. Close all windows.
You can now use the first computer’s printer from the second computer!
